Feast of Annai Vailankanni begins; pilgrims rush on

TAB PILGRIMS

The flag hoisting for the annual festival at the Annai Vailankanni Church in Besant Nagar will take place this Tuesday evening. signalling the start of the annual feast which celebrates Mother Mary.

The feast is celebrated on September 8.

Since this morning, pilgrims were seen walking down the main roads leading to the shrine, mostly from north and central parts of the city to participate in this event.

As they pack into the pavements and spill on to the roads, traffic may be affected this afternoon onwards in Adyar.

So if you have to travel to that part of the city, make your plans accordingly.

Police have also issued traffic management plans to streamline motorists. While the pilgrims are asked to walk down Besant Avenue, cars and bikes and buses are asked to take L B Road. But roads towards the shrine have been made one way and blocked at some ends.
